Welcome to the Family History Web-site of Neil McKay.
Although I now spell my surname McKay, research has shown that earlier generations of my family chose to use both the spelling McKay and MacKay. In addition to my Paternal ancestors, I have also included my Maternal ancestors, the Bailey Family and the extended family lines of both. Click on the various families on the left to see how we all link together.
In the early stages of the research, much credit goes to my niece, Alyson, who started the ball rolling so to speak. As the project has advanced I have found many relatives that I did not know I had, not just in the UK, but also in Australia and New Zealand.
Much use has been made of Family History web-sites, County Archives, various National Archives and Libraries and many other sources too numerous to mention here. Credit must also go to my close and distant relatives for the help and information they have provided. These include my brother Malcolm James McKay and his daughter Alyson, cousins Richmond Stuart Manyweathers and Sue Zammit in Australia, cousins Barbara Lewis nee Stott, Graham Stott and Kevin Stott in New Zealand, cousins Janet Campbell, Bob Moody, Michael Rich, Henry Thompsett, Isabel MacKay, Colleen Burrill and Jill Sutton in the UK to name but a few. Without their help I would not have been able to complete this project.
Visit the various 'Family' pages on the left for a detailed account of each branch of my extended family. I have not attempted to cite every source of information in these pages, but unless stated otherwise, it can be assumed that I have copies of the relevant documents. Family Trees of each branch of the family have been included on the 'Family Trees' page. The 'Military' page records the Service Records of several of the extended family members ranging back as far as John MacKay serving with the 42nd Highlanders at Waterloo.
I have accumulated a large number of photographs of family members, some of which can be viewed on the 'Gallery' page. Please click on the photographs to view an enlargement.
Census Returns and Electoral Registers for London, Australia and New Zealand have also been a very useful source of information in helping to compile this web-site.
Anyone wishing to save copies of documents from this web-site are free to do so. If you wish to contact me, please do so via the 'Contact Me' page.
In addition to this web-site, I have also constructed an extensive Family Tree on the 'Ancestry' Web-site which you are free to visit. Anyone wishing to do so should request a 'Guest Link' from me which would give unrestricted access to the information I have input to that site.it t cancan be assumed, , but unless Aaaaiiiiiiit goes to my Niece, Alysonitresearch has shown that earlierrrr
