The Gadsby Family Line: This is an overview of some of the main family members.
Information on the 1st Gadsby Family generation found is very sparce. Edward Gadsby and his wife Anne Hellicock, may have lived in either Leicestershire or Huntingdonshire. Edward was born 1708 in Kirklington, Nottinghamshire and Anne was born in Heather in Leicestershire. They married on 30th October 1728 in Newark, Lincolnshire, and they both died in 1768 in Lincoln. A record of only 1 son has been found, Richard Gadsby, born in Woolley, Huntingdonshire on 3rd May 1748. Edward would be a 5 x Great Grand Father and Richard a 4 x Great Grand Father of mine.
Richard Gadsby was born in Woolley on 3rd May 1748 and married Jane Cole in Swineshead, Bedfordshire on 5th January 1773. Jane had been born in Riseley, Bedfordshire on 23rd March 1749. They had 9 children, Mary in 1773, Joseph in 1775, Jane in 1776, Richard in 1778, (my 3 x Great Grand Father), Barbara in 1779, James in 1782, Peter Coles in 1784, Hannah in 1786 and Jemima in 1789, all of which were born in Knotting in Bedfordshire. Richard died in Knotting in July 1821 and Jane in August 1819.
3 x Great Grand Father Richard was born in Knotting, Bedfordshire on 3rd May 1778 and married Keziah Wright in Souldrop, Bedfordshire on 26th July 1801, Keziah having been born in Souldrop on 1st December 1782. They had 6 children, Mary in 1806, Joseph in 1809, Hannah in 1811, George Richard in 1811, Sarah in 1815 (my 2 x Great Grand Mother) and Tamar in 1817, all having been born in Souldrop. Richard died on 9th December 1863 and Keziah on 11th August 1849, both in Souldrop.
Sarah Gadsby was born in Souldrop on the 1st January 1815 and married my 2 x Great Grand Father, George Rich in Souldrop on 23rd December 1834. See the Rich Family for further information.
It is worth mentioning John Gadsby who was a nephew of Sarah Gadsby and had a rather vivid imagination when it came to naming his children. John was the son of Sarah's older brother Joseph. He married Lydia Cocking in Souldrop on 24th October 1853. Their 10 children were named: Gertrude, Tabitha, Nathan John, Tryphena, Zimran, Elisheba, Asenath, Herbert Nahor, Araunah and Othniel.
